Munnar is a hill station in the Indian state of Kerala. Tourists come here to see the vast tea plantations of the area. This town and the surrounding region usually offer the most pleasant temperatures in Kerala. Munnar is also a popular place for Indian honeymooners. Munnar is a hill station at an elevation of 1,600 m, and was a summer resort for the British during the British Raj.

During my last trip across Kerala, India I came across this place amidst the tea gardens of Munnar. The place looked surreal filled with lushness of greenery. The little drizzle added to the beauty of the location. The relaxing feeling at the time was unforgettable. This photo always reminds me of what heaven on earth might look like :)

Yellappetty, Munnar The Yellappetty hills are on the way to the famed Top Station in Munnar – the highest point in Munnar, on the Munnar-Kodaikkanal route. The 35 kilometers to the hills can be covered in an hour-long drive, winding across tea plantations and past the Kundala and Mattuppetti dams.

Taste of Munnar...
Kerala is famous for Fish Curry. For snacks, one should try local spicy cashew nut, chilly bhaji with hot tea as they are a traditional snack and makes good combination in cold weather. Munnar has some amazing street food (try the Gobi noodles), so if you are after a cheap and delicious meal check the area around the bus stand in Munnar (not the KSRTC bus stand in Old Munnar). Fresh tea, coffee and milk is available at most places. Hard and soft drink are also available at fair number of shops.
Climate
The season between October and March (post-monsoon) is considered the best to visit Munnar. Take a rain coat with you from April to November. The temperature in the afternoon reaches about 22 to 26 °C throughout the year. The temperature in the night and early morning goes down to about 12 to 16°C. In winter there can be some colder nights, so bring some warm clothes. Malayalam and Tamil are the main languages spoken here. Visitors often feel uncomfortable while talking with local people as they only talk in regional language. However, you can manage with English as people are highly educated

There are KSRTC buses and public buses offered by private operators as well as auto rickshaws. The drivers also call it Tuktuk here. As Munnar is touristy place, the tuktuk drivers offer you a high fixed price beforehand for a ride. The normal price is ₹30 for the first kilometer and ₹15 for every additional kilometer as of February 2026. The region around Munnar is way more calm and beautiful than the town itself. If you want quiet, stay in one of the surrounding villages and away from a main road.
